Financial information shows an organization’s true priorities. You can exaggerate in your rhetoric, but the financials don’t lie.
Here is just one example where our aspirations and reality do not match.
In our mission statement, we say that we want to be the “best school district in our state.”
But when it comes to our budget, our goal is mediocrity, with the goal for teacher salaries to be “in the middle of comparable schools.”
Why would we want to incentivize our best teachers to leave for districts that will pay them for being the best?
Are we trying to be the best? Or are we merely trying to be average, shooting for somewhere in the middle of comparable school districts?
My goal is to work for a better and brighter future for the district. If you choose me to serve on the board, I will work to ensure that our aspirations match our reality. I will work to ensure that we are well above “the middle.”
